Maybe it’s because it’s winter and I feel romantic. Maybe because I’m 40 and I feel nostalgic. Maybe just because everybody loves wedding pictures….whatever the reason, I’ve decided to warm this winter night with some of the wedding pictures that I’ve taken. So, let’s get hitched!! I remember my first wedding as a photographer… probably about 12 years ago if I’m not mistaken. Claire, the bride, was breathtakingly beautiful and I felt so lucky to share that special day with her and Johan. So many weddings have taken place in the meantime. My style of photography changed as well as my level of anxiety … making room for a more relaxed, go-with-the-flow kind of photography.
I love weddings. Who doesn’t!! To be a guest at a wedding is always nice, but to be the photographer…. boy, that’s another story. I’ve shared laughter and tears. I’ve calmed crying brides (and hysterical ones). I’ve even fixed hair (my other job is rescue hairdresser). A wedding day is something like a symphony orchestra…. high’s and low’s…different instruments… but altogether wonderful.
Let me take you on a journey…
This is beautiful Henriette. She got married at Castello Di Monte, a beautiful Tuscan venue in Waterkloof, Pretoria. Her make-up was applied by talented Maureen Grobler, my best make-up artist. This is a perfect example of what my favorite lens can do, the Canon 85mm f1.8 – a soft, blurry background which most brides like because it creates a very romantic style.
I couldn’t resist sharing some of Jaco & Elizma’s wedding pictures. This perfect couple walked into my life a few years ago, I met them through the owner of Die Bruidsgids, who published my work during that same year. I was so grateful for the opportunity and I loved every minute of this wedding. It took place at the beautiful De Haven Oost, a venue with lots of detail and perfect spots for photography. Her wedding dress detail was intricate and beautiful…even her shoes had lace on them! I absolutely adored the soft pink of her dress – a masterpiece created by Fritz Wilson.
Just look at them. Perfect for each other!
Amelia. Make-up by Maureen Grobler.
Sonia… This couple were so in love with each other, you could see it a mile away. They got married at the lovely Shepstone Gardens. Any photographer’s dream as you have no problem with light at all – they have a see-through glass roof which looks spectacular during the day and night. I am proud to say my sister Maureen did the make-up, again.
These two!! Banie & Jackie. We’ve developed a long-term relationship 🙂 In the meantime they’ve created a beautiful little baby boy who apparently runs around on two legs these days (I think it’s time for another shoot you two). They got married in Cullinan and we took the couple photos at the Cullinan Station. This was one of those weddings where not just the background blurred, but my eyes as well…from all the tears.
Blue is beautiful. Some detailed pictures – loving the touch of blue in these photographs. It’s amazing how much time goes into planning each wedding. That is why it is so important to make sure you have pictures like this – you want to remember this forever. Thank you Terens & Claire for choosing me as your photographer, you were awesome!
Ryno & Joré – romantic image of the perfect wedding kiss…
The beautiful Galagos. Their forest is the perfect backdrop for pictures like this. This is what getting hitched look like 🙂
So, there you have it. Just a few of the images taken over the years. Wedding season is just around the corner, make sure you plan well in advance and enjoy every minute of it!
